Gauges...
Well in order for me to use my T56 with out modifying the tail
housing to accept a speedometer drive I have chosen to use
Autometer Phantom Electronic gauges. The speedometer and
tachometer are 5" gauges and the water, oil pressure, and
voltmeter are 2 5/8" gauges.
The at rest postion of the tach is at about 1000 rpms. I can't
remeber what the box said about this but this is normal.
What I did was cover the front of the main cluster with
1/4" foam. Then used some "marine" grade leather like
material to cover up the foam. Then I cut the holes in it for
the gauges and indicator lights. This looks way nicer than
it ever has!
What I did was use two 6-way connectors that I bought at
Fleet Farm in the trailer wiring section. Then I just
connected each wire from the gauges to a wire on a
connector and now I can remove the main gauge cluster as
an assembly with out taking out the whole dash.
LED Blinker Indicator Lights and Check Engine Light...
Unlike the Volt, Water, and Oil gauge
though, they are 2 1/16". The fuel gauge
is the 8-73 ohm, Ford style gauge. This
is the closest to the Datsun sending units
ohm range(14-82 ohms). So it "should"
be close enough. Other guys have done
this and so say its close enough and
some say its not accurate enough. I say
what fuel gauge is accurate? I can run
my truck on "E" for 50 miles!

The turn signals that were in my car
were of course green. Now since I have
already install new gauges for everything
else I figured why not install some new
blinker indicator lights too! So I went
and looked for some LED lights that
would work for my application. What I
found was some 12V blue LED lights. I
bought mine at Fleet Farm in the
automotive section. I also bought a 12V
red LED for my check engine light. In
the picture above I have my left turn
signal on and the check engine light is on
too. The blinker lights are extremely
bright just so you know. It won't be a
problem in the day time but at night it
could be a little too bright!
